Blog by Geoff Walker - RE/MAX Absolute Walker Realty | August 28th, 2023

The summer season is coming to an end and your lawn may not be prepared for the upcoming fall and winter season. This being said we have created a list of a few things you can do to prepare your lawn for the colder weather.

Step 1: Clear lawn

Make sure to declutter your lawn for the fall and winter season. If leaves, toys, and tools are left on the lawn it can cause a blockage of nutrients that it needs to stay healthy for the next summer. Tree leaves can cause damage to the lawn and prevent sun-light from hitting the grass which is vital for a healthy lawn.

Step 2: Watering the lawn

Even during the Autumn season your grass still needs to be watered. Fall watering helps your grass wind down from summer stress and will gain strength and become more resilient for the upcoming summer.

Step 3: Bring your outdoor furniture in

Make sure to bring your furniture that you have outside indoors that way it will prevent the furniture from tarnishing or being destroyed from the harsh winters we have.

Step 4: Turn off outside faucets

One of the best ways to prevent damage to water lines is by turning off outside faucets and winterizing them. Doing this reduces the water pressure and helps prevent build up from snow and ice. There is always a risk of long term damage to the plumbing infrastructure if these steps are not followed.

Step 5: Prune Plants

At the end of summer, most plants become overgrown. By deadheading plants and flower heads. Your overall garden will look cleaner and potentially more flowers will grow for the upcoming summer.

If you follow these tips your lawn will look better than ever for the next summer season!
